Is my strategy at risk?
Check the visions, goals, and objectives you are most interested in to understand whether gaps in ownership, value definition, and execution might cause a strategic theme to stall or fail.
Focus on core strategies and identify weaknesses in strategic execution. Click the
local filter button < Strategy Node field. Select the vision, goal, objective, or strategic theme that matters to you. You can also go to the Browse tab in the selector to find a vision, goal, objective, or strategic theme in the context of the strategy hierarchy.
All strategic themes associated with the selected node in the strategy network will be displayed in the report. For example, if you select a goal and the goal is relevant to 4 strategic themes, the 4 strategic themes will be displayed as columns on the Y-axis of the matrix.
Review ownership of the strategic. Review the Business Owner cell for each strategic theme to ensure there are no gaps in accountability.
Ensure the strategic theme delivers value. Review the Operational Value Stream cell to ensure that one or more operational value streams are specified to deliver value to customers. The Development Value Stream cell should capture how capabilities are built to support that delivery. Operational and development value streams are essential for translating strategy into executable, end-to-end flow. When these value streams are missing, strategies lack a defined path to implementation and an inability to trace, measure, or optimize how value is created and delivered across the organization. The Solutions cell shows the applications or components that are built and evolved by the development value stream and enables the flow of value in the operational value stream.
Check for gaps in execution of the strategic theme. Review the Epic cell to ensure that the strategic theme is associated with an epic that drives the investment in the strategic initiative. The ART cell should document the agile release trains that are the delivery engine for the strategic theme.
If you identify gaps in ownership, value, or execution of the strategic theme, navigate to the strategic theme and initiate a discussion with relevant colleagues about the strategic theme.
