Where are our applications used?
The business question Where are our applications used? shows the use of applications by organizations in the company. The number of applications used by organizations is aggregated to the top two levels in the organization hierarchy. The business question helps you find outliers in IT usage from an organizational perspective. Focus on organizations with high usage and identify potential opportunities for optimization. Review where technology is underutilized and promote suitable IT support to close gaps in efficiency and innovation.
Use the method that is most convenient for you:
- In the left navigation panel, enter Where are our applications used? in the Search Navigation field.
 - In the left navigation panel, click Home. In the content area, go to the Business Questions page and click the tile for Where are our applications used?
 - In the left navigation panel, expand the sections Business Questions and Business Relationship and click Where are our applications used?
 
          
 
The Applications and Used Organizations view is a nested matrix that shows the organizational hierarchy with information about the number of applications used by those organizations. Here's how to interpret the information:
- Per default, the top 2 levels of organizations in the organization hierarchy are displayed. The second level is nested in the box of its parent organization.
 - Each organization displays the aggregated number of applications used by the organization. The number is an aggregation of all used applications for the organization and its subordinate organizations. Retired applications are not considered in the application count.
 - Organizations are colored based on the very high number of applications used (dark red) to very low number of applications used (pale yellow).
 - To view and edit the applications used by an organization, click an organization > 
 edit button > Edit Applications of Selected Organization. - To specify that an organization uses an application, you can create a business support for the organization. Click an organization >  
 edit button > Assign Applications to Selected Organization. To create the business support, you must specify the application providing the support, the business capability that the application provides, and the organization that is supported. - Click the 
 three vertical dots button > Show Legend to understand the color coding. 
If you have the relevant access permissions, you can edit the organizations and applications in this business question.
- To edit a single organization, double-click the organization in the matrix to open its content area.
 - To open a data workbench to edit applications, click an organization > 
 edit button > Edit Applications of Selected Organization. Use the features of the data workbench to slice-and-dice your data to focus on data and do the analyses you are interested in. 
Organizations and applications must be in the repository and well-documented. The following data is required in order to have meaningful results:
- Business supports must be defined for the organization. The business support describes the application providing the support, the business capability that the application provides, and the organization that is supported.
 
Go to the Data Quality page. The Data Completeness view indicates the data that is recommended for meaningful results to the business question. Scroll to the Pending Issues view to resolve the issues and to ensure that the data is complete.
Go to the Data Source page to review the business capabilities and their supporting applications that are used to answer the business question. The data source is a list report and cannot be edited.
