Who owns our technologies?

The business question Who owns our technologies? helps you to ensure that organizational responsibility is documented for all components in the technology portfolio. Understand which organizations are the IT owners or operations responsible of components and which components have no organizational ownership defined.

Look for gaps in organizational responsibility to mitigate risk to your company's IT infrastructure.

The license package IT Transformation Server - Enterprise is required to work with this business question.

Use the method that is most convenient for you:

  • In the left navigation panel, enter Who owns our technologies? in the Search Navigation field.
  • In the left navigation panel, click Home. In the content area, go to the Business Questions page and click the tile for Who owns our technologies?
  • In the left navigation panel, expand the sections Business Questions and Governance and click Who owns our technologies?

The doughnut charts shows the percentage of components owned by organizations that have the roles Component Owner or Operations. The charts also indicate the percentage of the company's components that have no organizational ownership defined. Ideally every component has at least one organization defined as a Component Owner and one organization defined as with the Operations role.

Point to a doughnut slice to display a tooltip with the number of components owned by a specific organization. Double-click a doughnut slice to open a data workbench showing all components owned by the organization. You can edit an component's Component Owner or Operations role directly in the data workbench.

If you have the relevant access permissions, you can edit the components in this business question.

  1. Go to the business question Who owns our technologies?
  2. In the IT Owner or Operations doughnut chart, double-click a doughnut slice to open the Components data workbench. The data workbench displays all components owned by the organization as a business owner or IT owner. Use the features of the data workbench to slice-and-dice your data to focus on data and do the analyses you are interested in.
  3. Edit a component directly in the data workbench or select a component and click the Navigate navigate button to open its content area.

Components and organizations must be in the repository. The following data should be captured for each component to have meaningful results for the business question Who owns our technologies?

  • Component Owner role: Specify which organization owns the component and is responsible for managing the functional requirements.
  • Operations role: Specify which IT organization is responsible for the operations of the component.

Go to the Data Quality page and resolve the issues to ensure that the data is complete.

Go to the Data Source page to review the components and organizations that are used to answer the business question. The data source is a list report and cannot be edited.
