How will IT failure impact our business?
The business question How will IT failure impact our business? provides a high-level end-to-end view of your IT technology landscape.
Review your business' reliance on locations and servers and highlight the susceptibility of applications and the business capabilities they support. Understand the dependencies that critical business capabilities have on the IT in order to mitigate risk before an IT outage occurs.
Use the method that is most convenient for you:
- In the left navigation panel, enter How will IT failure impact our business? in the Search Navigation field.
 - In the left navigation panel, click Home. In the content area, go to the Business Questions page and click the tile for How will IT failure impact our business?
 - In the left navigation panel, expand the sections Business Questions and Risk and click How will IT failure impact our business?
 
          
 
A filter setting is mandatory for this business question. Click the 
 local filter button and select a business capability to understand IT failure for the business. Or focus on an IT asset for the view by specifying one of the following fields:
- Location
 - Virtual Server
 - Physical Server
 - Application
 
The flow report shows an end-to-end view of the potential impact on the business if IT technology fails. The visualization is built based on the asset that you have selected in either the Business Capability, Location, Virtual Server, Physical Server, or Application filter.
Here's how to interpret the information:
- 
            
 Business capabilities are shown on the far left. - Arrows start with business capabilities and point to the 
 applications they support. - Arrows start with applications and point to the 
 virtual servers or  
 physical servers that they run on. - Arrows start with virtual servers and point to the physical servers that host the virtual servers.
 - Arrows start with physical servers and point to the 
 locations where they are housed. 
Click the 
 3-dots button > Change Layout to open the diagram designer and move the items, change the look , and save the updated layout of the network diagram.
          If you have the relevant access permissions . you can edit the business capabilities, applications, physical and virtual servers, and locations visualized in the report. Click the  
 edit button > and select the relevant option to edit. Use the features of the data workbench to slice-and-dice your data to focus on data and do the analyses you are interested in.
Applications must be in the repository and well-documented. Also business capabilities, physical and virtual servers, and locations must be in the repository. The following should be documented:
- Business capability that the application provides
 - Physical or virtual server that the application is deployed on
 - Physical server that hosts the virtual server
 - Location where the physical server is located
 
Go to the Data Quality page and resolve the issues to ensure that the data is complete.
Go to the Data Source page to review the applications and their information flows are used to answer the business question. The data source is a list report and cannot be edited.
