Which applications currently support a business capability?

Knowing how many and which applications support a business capability is crucial to ensure that technology investments directly enable strategic goals. Review the applications that support mission-critical business capabilities to ensure that they are marked as strategic applications and assess the recommendation for future investment of the applications supporting a business capability.

  1. Go to the business question What should we be focusing on?
    • Business capabilities are colored based on the Business Relevance attribute. The most critical business capabilities are shades of purple. The less critical business capabilities are shades of green.
    • Each second-level business capability shows an As-Is Applications element with the number of as-is applications that currently provide support.
    • An application is counted as an as-is application if the Object State attribute is set to Active and the current date is between the application's start and end date.
    • The number is an aggregation of all applications that provide support to the second-level business capability as well as its subordinate business capabilities on lower levels of the business capability model.
  2. Double-click the As-Is Applications element in a business capability to view a data workbench with all current applications that provide support to the business capability.
  3. Review the Strategic Application column for each application and ensure that Yes is set if the application is critical for the business capability.
  4. Review the Recommendation column and assess the strategic investment of each application. Look for redundancies in application support to assess where future investment is warranted.
  5. Review the End Date column. If a strategic application has an impending end date, click the  Navigate navigate button to open the applicaiton's content area and review the the Successor field to see if a successor application has been defined. If not, contact the person responsible for the application to understand why no successor application is defined.
