What is our OPEX distribution?
The What is our OPEX Distribution? business question provides an overview of your applications and their costs. The analytics visualize the current and planned application budgets on a yearly basis and identify the most important rationalization candidates. This business question helps you to understand whether your applications are in budget and on time.
Set filters for each view to understand application costs for business owner organizations, business capabilities, and various application groups. Review your current year applications per cost type and development type so that you understand OPEX trends and streamline the application portfolio.
Use the method that is most convenient for you:
- In the left navigation panel, enter What is our OPEX distribution? in the Search Navigation field.
 - In the left navigation panel, click Home. In the content area, go to the Business Questions page and click the tile for What is our OPEX distribution?
 - In the left navigation panel, expand the sections Business Questions and Finance and click What is our OPEX distribution?
 
          
 
Cards showing application costs: Point to the 
 rescan button to see when the indicator was last updated. Click the button to rescan the costs based on the most recent data.
Application Cost by Cost Type: Shows the distribution of the current year operational costs for planned applications based on cost type. Point to a doughnut slice to display a tooltip with the percentage of operational costs for the cost type. Double-click a doughnut slice to open a report showing all applications with a cost specified for that cost type.
Application Cost by Development Type: Shows the distribution of the current year operational costs for planned applications based on the development type of the applications. Point to a doughnut slice to display a tooltip with the percentage of applications with the development type. Double-click a doughnut slice to open a report slowing all applications and their costs for that development type.
25 Most-Costly Applications: Shows a bar chart with the most expensive applications for the current year. Each bar shows a break down of the costs based on cost type.
If you have the relevant access permissions, you can edit the application costs in this business question.
- In the Application Cost by Cost Type or Application Cost by Development Type reports, click the  
 navigate button to open the content area of an application. Go to Overview > Operational Expenses to to view or update the application's costs. - In the 25 Most Costly Applications view, double-click a bar to open the application's content area.
 
Applications must be in the repository and well-documented. The following data is required for this business question:
- Operational expenses
 - Development Type attribute
 - Recommendation attribute
 
Go to the Data Quality page and resolve the issues to ensure that the data is complete.
Go to the Data Source page to review the applications that are used to answer the business question. The data source is a list report and cannot be edited.
