Which applications will support a business capability in the future?
Effectively planning future applications to support business capabilities is essential for maximizing the strategic impact of technology investments. Identify gaps or redundancies in application support and ensure that planned applications are in light with your company's planned strategy.
- Go to the business question What should we be focusing on?
- Business capabilities are colored based on the Business Relevance attribute. The most critical business capabilities are shades of purple. The less critical business capabilities are shades of green.
 - Each second-level business capability shows a To-Be Applications element with the number of to-be applications that are planned to provide support.
 - An application is counted as a to-be application if the Object State attribute is set to Plan and either the application's start date is in the future, or the application is a strategic application and is recommended for future consideration. ( Strategic Application = Yes and Recommendation = Invest, Tolerate, or Migrate
 - The number is an aggregation of all applications that provide support to the second-level business capability as well as its subordinate business capabilities on lower levels of the business capability model.
 
 - Double-click the To-Be Applications element in a business capability to view a data workbench with all to-be applications that are planned to support the business capability.
 - Click Structure and set a checkmark next to the Recommendation attribute to assess the strategic recommendation regarding future investment for the application.
 - Review the Strategic Application column for each application and ensure that Yes is set if the application is critical for the business capability.
 - Review the Recommendation column and assess the strategic investment of each application. Look for redundancies in application support to assess where future investment is warranted.
