Add the content area to a user profile
When a user navigates to an object, the view opens that is defined as object view in the class settings assigned to the user profile the user is logged in with.
You must specify the use of your class-based content area in the relevant class settings.
You can add a class independent content area to a user profile via the menu of the user profile.

- You have created a class based content area for an object class.
- You have created a user profile, a view scheme for the user profile, and class settings for the relevant object class. The class settings are assigned to the view scheme and the view scheme to the user profile. Definition of the user profile, the view scheme and the class settings are not part of the following procedure.
- Go to the Presentation tab in Alfabet Expand.
- Expand the Class Settings node in the explorer and expand the folder of the relevant object class.
- Click the class settings assigned to the relevant user profile via the view scheme.
- Select the class based content area in the Object View attribute.

- You have created a class independent content area.
- You have created a user profile. The following procedure does not include creation of a new user profile.
- If you would like an icon to be displayed in the navigation menu for the new navigation menu item, you must have uploaded the icon to the icon gallery.
- Go to the Admin tab in Alfabet Expand.
- Expand the node of the relevant user profile.
- Right-click the user profile node to add a menu item on the upper level of the menu hierarchy or an existing menu item node to create a sub-menu item and select Create Menu Item.
- Click the new menu item in the explorer and define the following:
- Target Type: Select ContentArea.
- Target: Select the content area that shall open when the user clicks the menu item. Make sure that you select a class independent content area. Both class based and class independent content areas will be available in the drop-down list.
- Caption: Define the caption of the menu item in the navigation menu.
- Icon: Optionally select an icon to be displayed in front of the caption in the navigation menu. Open the editor of the attribute, select the relevant icon gallery and select the icon in the list of icons in the icon gallery.
