Change the default content of content areas
Content areas are displayed in the center pane in Alfabet and usually will have one or more tabbed pages. Content areas are available throughout Alfabet to present analytics about the IT architecture as a whole (such as the Home content area) as well as to provide detailed information about each asset in the IT portfolio.
When a user first accesses a content area, the default configuration is displayed. Every content area is customizable and users can decide which information they want to see and how they want it to be arranged. The user can add, re-order, and remove content items as they like. These changes are only visible and persistent for the user performing them.
As the portfolio administrator, you can change the content in any content area for all users. Your changes are stored as the new default layout and will be visible to all users who have not yet modified the content area themselves. If a user has modified the content area before you save a default layout, a message will be displayed. The user can then decide to either load the new default layout that you have created and overwrite the modifications they have made to that content area, or choose to not overwrite the changes to their content area with the default layout.
As an administrative user, you can save the default layout for a content area using any user profile. However, you can also save default layouts for the content areas for the object classes that assets are based on directly in the Portfolio Admin user profile. A saved layout for a content area will be available for all other user profiles.
As an administrative user, you may also see the message after migration to a new release if changes have been made to a content area in the default configuration of Alfabet.
- In the left navigation panel, expand the Business Architecture, Application Architecture, etc. section to open the data workbench of the object class you want to work with.
- Navigate to the content area of an asset to specify the layout of its content area. Click here for information about the options available for changing content areas.
- Click the three-dots button and select Save as Default.
To revert to the original default configuration of Alfabet, click Sync Product Changes.
