Technical overview
Data is imported from ServiceNow CI tables via the RESTful services of ServiceNow. Prior to using the ServiceNow integration, the integration interface must be set up. This includes configuration of ServiceNow and delivery of access parameters to the Alfabet cloud operations team.
Once the interface is set up, you can import ServiceNow data to Alfabet in four steps:
- Trigger a preconfigured ADIF import job to import data into the Alfabet database. Data is imported in a ServiceNow repository de-coupled from the actual Alfabet asset data.
- Mark data in the ServiceNow repository as relevant for update of asset data. Selection of data is done manually on the Alfabet user interface. Thus, you can decide on import of only a sub-set of data relevant for your use cases. You can also decide whether you want data to be imported once only or to be included in each following data import. At the end of this process, you can clean the ServiceNow repository from data that is not relevant for import.
- Trigger a preconfigured ADIF import job to merge the data marked as relevant for import to your Alfabet asset data.
After import, a link to the ServiceNow user interface showing the data about the asset in ServiceNow is available for all assets updated during import.
