Improve the quality of your data

Alfabet enables you to view your data and assess the data quality at every stage of your work. Data quality issues are highlighted directly in the data workbench and content area so that critical information can be fixed via inline editing right on-the-spot. Dedicated data quality reports are also available for every business question to ensure that the value of your data is understood when making strategic decisions about the IT.

Data quality assessments are available to all users, regardless of access permissions. Users will only be able to correct data quality issues for assets if they have relevant write permissions. Right after the data is changed, the data quality rules are recalculated immediately and the data quality scores are updated in the user interface.

Data quality assessments are available throughout Alfabet to ensure decision-making is based on reliable and precise information. There a number of places to assess data quality:

• Data Quality > My Data Quality Issues in the left navigation panel shows a dataset of all assets that you have authorization to that have data quality issues. The dataset includes the severity of the issue as well as a link that opens the location where you can fix the issue. When you navigate back to the My Data Quality Issues view, the resolved violation will no longer be displayed.
• Data workbenches: Some columns may show a colored frame in a cell. This could indicate that a data quality issue exists. The frame is colored differently based on the severity of the data quality violation. Point to the colored frame to display a tooltip about the required data. Resolve the data quality violation in the data workbench. Additionally click Structure and add the Data Quality Severity to show a symbol with the highest severity of issues for that asset and Data Quality Score that shows an average score of the asset's data quality issues.
• Content areas: The status of the data quality rule severity is displayed in the breadcrumb next to the current asset's name.
  • Click the severity symbol in the breadcrumb to open the data quality rule pane that lists all issues, including when the data quality violation was first reported and the last time the rule was recalculated.
  • Click the Recalculate button in the pane to recalculate all data quality rules for the asset. The data quality rule severity symbol is available on relevant content items.
  • Point to the symbol to show a tooltip about how you can improve the data quality.
  • Click the symbol to pen the data quality rule pane with relevant information about the data quality violation.Once the data quality issue is resolved, the color border will no longer be displayed.
• Guided data entry: A number showing data quality violations my be displayed for each relevant section in the guided data entry view like Basic Data, Lifecycle Data, Evaluation. Click the data quality issue symbol to navigate your focus directly to the spot where you can fix the issue. Attribute fields will display a colored frame pointing out where a data quality issue exists. Content items may also display the a data quality severity symbol that shows where data can be improved. Once the data quality issue is resolved, the severity symbol will disappear.
• Business questions: All business questions have a dedicated Data Quality page that provides information about the quality of the data and thus the reliability of the analysis. To fix the data quality issues, open the Pending Data Quality Fixes per Rule view and click the links in the Resolution column. Every time you correct a data quality issue, you will see immediate improvement to your data source.
