Capture standard platform category data

A standard platform category bundles and classifies content-specific standard platforms in order to evaluate various aspects of standard platforms. Standard platform categories may have a hierarchical structure with multiple subordinate standard platform categories. Each standard platform may be associated with only one standard platform category.

The license package Enterprise Architecture Management is required to work with standard platform categories.

Standard platforms are structured in a standard platform hierarchy. Before you begin, you should consider which standard platform categories are your main standard platform categories and which are their subordinate standard platform categories.

Go to Information ArchitectureStandard Platform Categories:

Try to capture as much information as possible about the standard platform category because complete data considerably improves the results of business questions and other analytics.

Once a standard platform category is in the repository, you can define more details about the standard platform category in the Standard Platform Categories data workbench.

Or you can select an individual standard platform category in the data workbench and navigate to its content area and specify and analyze the standard platform category in detail. In the data workbench, click the Navigate  Navigate button to open the standard platform category's content area. Go to the Overview page.

Define the standard platform category's basic data.

A standard platform can only be assigned to one standard platform category. A standard platform category may have multiple standard platforms assigned to it.

  1. In the Standard Platform Categories data workbench, click the Navigate  Navigate button to open the standard platform category's content area.
  2. Go to the Overview page.
  3. In the Assigned Standard Platforms field, enter the name of the standard platform that is assigned to the standard platform category, or click in the field to open the selector. Select each standard platform that you want to assign to the standard platform category.
  4. Click outside of the selector to close it and update the Standard Platforms field.

A role represents a functional responsibility that a user or organization has for the standard platform category. Assigning users and organizations to roles is critical to understanding responsibility for assets in the IT and is required to answer the business question Who is responsible for our assets?.

Responsibilities are based on preconfigured role types. Your company may also configure custom role types via the Portfolio Admin user profile. Depending on the role type, a specified user and/or a specified organization may fulfill the responsibility for the standard platform category. A user assigned responsibility via a role has read-only permissions to the standard platform category. To change data about the standard platform category, they must also be specified as an authorized user or member of an authorized user group.

Roles can be assigned to a standard platform category in the Standard Platform Categories data workbench or the standard platform category content area via Overview > Responsibilities. A person or organization can have one of the following roles or a custom role added by your company:

To specify responsibilities for the standard platform category:

  1. Click in the relevant role field to open the selector.
  2. Expand the ORGANIZATION or USER sections in the selector and select the person or organization fulfilling the role.
  3. Click OK to save the role definition and close the selector.
  1. Go to Information ArchitectureStandard Platform Categories data workbench.
  2. Define the standard platform categories that you want to see in the data workbench. These are the standard platform categories that will be displayed in the report.
  3. Click Visualize > Standard Platform Category Analysis > Standard Platform Category Landscape.
  4. The report displays a nested matrix showing the standard platform categories filtered in the data table. Here's how to interpret the information:
    • Each standard platform category is represented by a nested box in the matrix.
    • Per default, the top 3 levels of standard platform categories in the standard platform category hierarchy are displayed.
    • Each standard platform category displays the number of standard platforms explicitly assigned to it.
  5. You can do the following:
    • Single-click a standard platform category to open its preview pane where you can edit relevant information and view the names of the standard platforms assigned to the category.
    • Double-click a standard platform category to navigate to its content area where you can edit more details and analyze the standard platform category in more detail.
    • Click the ThreeDots_Black three vertical dots button > Show Legend to understand the icons in the report.
