Installation

The Alfabet installer has been completely revised. While the generation of an application directory on the web server is no longer in the scope of the installer, the installer offers advanced installation and configuration capabilities for other components.

New service functionalities of the installer:

• A serial number is no longer required for installation. Instead, a license file is delivered by Software GmbH. The license file must be imported at the end of the installation procedure.
• The installer creates an alfabetms.xml configuration file with a server alias with default settings. You can define the database access parameters and the server alias name directly during installation.
• Installation of an Alfabet Server service is part of the installation.
• The installer offers the possibility to repair, remove, or alter existing installations.

Known limitations:

• The installer creates entries in the start menu to start the Alfabet Expand, Alfabet Administrator, and the Alfabet Server. In addition, there are two links to the Alfabet API server and Alfabet web which are currently not working. This is a known limitation that results from a cloud-specific installation method which uses these entries.
• The installer offers the possibility to install multiple Alfabet installations in parallel on the same host. This functionality is currently not working and must not be used.
• When an installation is removed via the installer, the server service is not removed and must be deleted after de-installation of the release with the installer.
