Visualize your data in business charts
Many types of ad-hoc analytics are available to graphically visualize the data displayed in the data table of the data workbench. This ensures that you visualize data that is relevant for your reporting purpose.
In addition to the data table where you can edit and filter your data, you can click the Visualize button to display Gantt charts (timelines), Portfolio charts, and matrix reports where you can visualize and edit the data. Other graphic visualizations include bar, line, pie, area, radar, and doughnut charts. You can also use these visualization types to show the data that you select in the data table to display.
Other kinds of reports may also be available in the Visualize menu of the data workbench. These are preconfigured reports with a fixed thematic scope that visualize the dataset specified in the data table.
The ad-hoc visualizations rely on the data visible in the data table. Therefore, it is important to set filters in the data table to reduce the data so that your visualization is meaningful. There are two ways to specify the data in the data table for the visualization:
- Select the individual assets in the data workbench.
- Set filters in the data table to reduce the amount of data that is displayed.
If the data workbench is filtered to show only applications that have the Recommendation attribute set to Migrate, only those applications would be displayed in the ad hoc reports like bar chart, matrix report, etc. or in a preconfigured report like Application Expenses by Cost Type.
You can export any of the visualizations to send to colleagues. You can also save any visualization except preconfigured reports and add it to the content repository. Visualizations added to the content repository can be added to any content area that you have access permissions to. The saved visualization will always show the most up-to-date data for the assets displayed in the report.
