Add referenced assets to the diagram
Some assets displayed in the diagram have references to other assets that you can also add to the diagram. You can add the referenced objects for an asset all at once.
An application may have 5 local components that you also want to display in the diagram. The local components will be added to the diagram item for the application.
Or an application group may have 10 applications assigned to it and you want to display only the most important important. You can add all of the applications to the application group diagram item. You can visually remove some of the applications from the application group diagram item without deleting them from the application group in the repository.
Here are some things to consider before you add the referenced assets:
- You can update an application and add its local components and you can update an application group and add its applications. Right-click the application or application group > Add Referenced Objects and select one of the options described below.
- Automatically adding referenced assets means that the diagram will be generated anew and any previous formatting may be lost and replaced with an automatically generated layout.
- The diagram may display new objects that need to be resized or repositioned or connection items that are overlapping or displayed as a confusing network.
You can specify a layout in order to position the added objects or you can modify the layout manually after the update action.
- Add selected referenced objects of an object to its diagram item. For example, add an application's local component or an application assigned to an application group: Right-click the diagram item > Add Referenced Objects > Add Referenced Object. A selector opens that lets you select one or more objects to add to the selected diagram item.
- Add all referenced objects of an object to its diagram item. Right-click the diagram item > Add Referenced Objects > Update All Referenced Objects. An Update Group editor opens where you can define the following:
- Group Table Layout. Select the checkbox to specify the automatic formatting of objects. If you do not select the checkbox, all objects will be placed on top of each other in the diagram and you will need to manually distribute them in the diagram.
- Organize by Rows or Organize by Columns: Select whether objects should be arranged in rows or in columns.
- Count: Enter how many rows or columns should be displayed.
- Reapply Table Layout on Rendering Diagram: Select the checkbox to specify that the layout should be rescanned upon the Update... action. If the checkbox is not selected, the current layout will not be updated with the table layout definition. In this case, the current layout of referenced objects including the positioning or removal of reference objects will not be changed.
- Right-click in the diagram > Add Referenced Objects > Update References for All Objects to add all referenced objects of all objects displayed in the diagram. Any objects referencing those already displayed in the diagram will be added to the diagram. The settings defined in the Update Group editor available via the Update All Referenced Objects option will be applied.
- Right-click in the diagram > Add Referenced Objects > Update All References Recursively to to add all referenced objects of all objects displayed in the diagram as well as the objects added via this function to the diagram. Any objects referencing those already displayed in the diagram will be added. If these added objects have subordinate objects, these will also be added to the diagram, and so forth. The update action will proceed until the lowest level in the hierarchy is reached. All objects will be placed on top of each other in the diagram and you will need to manually distribute them in the diagram. The settings defined in the Update Group editor available via the Update All Referenced Objects option will be applied.
