Add existing assets to the diagram

When you design a diagram, you will typically add diagram items such as applications and components that exist in the repository. The diagram items that can be added to the diagram are displayed in the left sidebar in the diagramming tool. If you are adding applications to a diagram, all information flows that already exist between applications will be automatically added and displayed as connections between the applications. The arrow will start with the application that is the source of the information flow and point to the target of the information flow.

  1. Add one or more assets to the diagram based on the class icons displayed in the toolbox on the left. You can either:
    • Click the class icon in the toolbox and click in the diagram workspace to place the object. The class icon in the toolbox will display a blue bar indicating it is selected and the mouse pointer will show a + symbol to indicate that something is being added to the diagram, or
    • Drag-and-drop the class icon to the diagram workspace. The class icon in the toolbox will display a blue bar indicating it is selected and the mouse pointer will show the class icon symbol as the user drags it.
  2. The relevant selector will open. Select one or multiple objects to add to the diagram and click OK to close the selector.
  3. The focus will be on the object you added and it will be selected. If you add multiple assets at once, they will all be selected. Click anywhere in the canvas area to clear the selection.
  4. Move or resize any individual diagram item. Or move or resize multiple diagram items by clicking and dragging the mouse to create a selection area. All objects within the selected area will be included in the selection. Objects can be individually added to the selection by holding the CTRL key while clicking.
    • To change the size of a diagram item, click it to display its handles. Drag any handle to the appropriate size.
    • To move a diagram item, click to select it and then drag it to another location on the canvas.

  5. Edit the basic attributes of an asset in the diagram, right-click the diagram item and select Edit Object. If you have the relevant access permission, the editor will open and you can edit the asset. You can also select Navigate to Content Area to edit and understand more details about the object.
