Grant access to Alfabet Expand

You must ensure that Alfabet Expand is only accessible to those individuals in your company that make up the core team of solution designers who are authorized to make changes to the meta-model. Access to Alfabet Expand as well the availability of specific functionalities in Alfabet Expand is controlled on a per-user basis. Each user must be explicitly specified to have access permission to Alfabet Expand as well as to the individual tabs and menus providing the various functionalities. This ensures that access to the functionalities in Alfabet Expand is explicitly differentiated based on the configuration tasks and responsibilities of the individual user. User access permissions depend on:

  1. In the Presentation tab of Alfabet Expand, expand the XML Objects > Administration folders.
  2. Right-click the XML object PlatformConfiguration and select Edit XML.
  3. In the XML editor, set one of the following attributes to false to hide the respective tab:
    • Expand_ClassModel to hide the ClassModel tab.
    • Expand_Admin to hide the Admin tab.
    • Expand_Functions to hide the Functions tab.
    • Expand_Reports to hide the Reports tab.
    • Expand_Workflows to hide the Workflows tab.
    • Expand_ADIF to hide the ADIF ADIF tab.
    • Expand_Diagram to hide the Diagrams tab.
  4. In the toolbar, click the Save  Save_Expand button.
  5. You must completely close Alfabet Expand to activate any changes you have made to the XML object PlatformConfiguration.

Only users of the type NamedUser may access Alfabet Expand. User access permissions to Alfabet Expand are managed by a user administrator in the User Administration functionality. If your configuration is based on one of the preconfigured Alfabet solutions, you will find this functionality in the Portfolio Admin unser profile under User Accounts Management > User Administration.

  1. In the User Administration view, select the user in the table and click Edit.
  2. In the editor, open the Alfabet Expand Permissions tab.
  3. Activate the Has Access to Alfabet Expand attribute.
  4. Select the checkbox of each functionality the user shoud be allowed to access in the Alfabet Expand Access Options field:
    • ADIF Designer: Access to the ADIF tab.
    • Administrator: Access to the functionality in the Meta Model menu.
    • Business Function Designer: Access to the Business Function tab.
    • Class Designer: Access to the Meta-Model tab.
    • Data Workbench Designer: Access to the Data Workbench tab.
    • Diagram Model/Shape Designer: Access to the Diagrams tab.
    • Icon Designer: Access to the Icon Gallery node in the Presentation tab. You need to provide access to Presentation tab as well to provide the use access to the icon gallery.
    • Managers Menu: Access to the functionality of the Managers menu.
    • Presentation Model Designer: Access to the Presentation tab.
    • Publication Designer: Access to the Publications tab.
    • Report Designer: Access to the Reports tab.
    • Utilities: this option is currently not in use.
