The business question What is our application portfolio? provides the most comprehensive analysis of the applications in your IT and and ensures a single source of truth about your application portfolio. A key task in application portfolio management is to understand the health of the application portfolio, where redundancies exist in applications and their technologies, how those applications impact the business capabilities, and which applications can be retired. The analytics for this business question ensure transparency about the application portfolio and provides immediate up-to-date insights for decision-making.

The business question visualizes data in a data workbench. The data workbench serves as a master list of all applications including the most important information about their relationships to other assets in the IT architecture. The application portfolio is displayed as a data workbench with columns for all attributes, indicators, roles, lifecycle and versioning information as well as information about referenced assets such as the business capabilities, organizations, servers, and locations that the application is associated with.

You can slice and dice the data as is needed. Add and remove columns and apply filter settings to assess the application portfolio from multiple perspectives. Click to learn about how to define the data you want to see.

Which applications are my strategic applications? Click Structure and ensure that the toggle switch is on for the Strategic Application column. In the data table, filter the Strategic Application column to show all values set to Yes.

Which applications are recommended to be sundowned? to be invested in? to be migrated? Click Structure and ensure that the toggle switch is on for the Recommendation column. In the data table, filter the Recommendation column to show all values set to Eliminate. You can also look at applications that are recommended for future investment or migration, for example.

Which applications support a specific business capability? Click the  dlt-icon-filter_Teal button. In the Business Capabilities field, specify a business capability to show only the applications supporting that business capability.

Which users are responsible for the applications? You can add various roles that specify a responsibility for the applications. Click Structure and ensure that the toggle switch is on for relevant roles such as Business Owner (Person), IT Owner (Person), Architect (Person), or Application Manager (Person). In the data table, filter the columns to show specific users that have the role you are interested in.

Which applications are owned by a specific organization? Click the  dlt-icon-filter_Teal button. In the Business Owner field, specify an organization and click Update.

Which applications are currently active? Select Active in the Object State field to show only the applications that are active.

Which applications belong to a specific application portfolio? Click the  dlt-icon-filter_Teal button. In the Application Group field, specify an application group and click Update.
