The business question What is our target architecture? provides a high-level perspective of how IT supports the business and which organizations use an application to what purpose. The visualization shows the business support that is provided by applications to business capabilities and the organizations that use the applications. Review the dependencies between the organizations and business capabilities in your company and identify potential redundancies or gaps in business support.

This business question visualizes data in a business support matrix. The "business support" concept simplifies the understanding of which application is used by an organization in order to provide the business capability. The visualization shows organizations displayed on the X-axis and business capabilities displayed on the Y-axis. The corresponding cells show where business support provided by an application. This indicates that the application is used by the organization on the X-axis to support the business capability on the Y-axis.

How is business support provided to a specific business capability? Click the Filter  dlt-icon-filter_Teal button and select a business capability in the Business Capability field. Select the Roll Up Business Supports checkbox to show the business supports specified for subordinate levels of business capabilities and organizations. Check the Aggregate to Application checkbox to show the applications providing the business supports.

How does the business support change over time for the most important business capabilities? Click the Filter  dlt-icon-filter_Teal button and enter the current date in the Active Date field to understand the current and planned support that applications provide to your company's business capabilities. Change the date to a date in the future to understand the future support of the business. Recommendation: Look for business capabilities with no business support in the future to understand where risks will occur to critical business capabilities due to potential gaps in application support.

Which applications are recommended for the target architecture? Click the Filter  dlt-icon-filter_Teal button and select Recommendation in the Color Rule field to highlight the business support based on the application recommendation.

What is the technical obsolescence of a business capability? Click the Filter  dlt-icon-filter_Teal button and select Technical Obsolescence in the Color Rule field to highlight the risks to the business capability based on technical obsolescence. Identify which business capability are at risk due to applications that use a component that has reached the end of its planned lifecycle.

Review the components that an application uses. Double-click an application to open the content area. Go to the Technology Portfolio page and open the Component Lifecycles view. Review the components that have an end date before the application's end date and consider whether the components shall be updated or whether the unsupported application should be replaced by a different application.
