Configure object evaluations

Alfabet FastLane provides predefined indicator types that are required to work with business questions. This enables users to evaluate different aspects about the performance of objects. The user specifies an indicator for a specific object and indicator type in a data workbench or an evaluation view. These preconfigured evaluation types and indicator types and their assignment to object classes cannot be changed.

Here are some examples of how preconfigured evaluations are used in Alfabet FastLane:

  • An indicator is manually defined by a user. For example, a user specifies the Criticality indicator for an application. The user could set the indicator to a number in a range from 1 - 5 whereby 1 is the highest and 5 the lowest.
  • An indicator is automatically calculated based on existing data. For example, an indicator can return the number of information flows for an application or return the average of multiple indicators related to criticality to provide an overall criticality score. These indicators are refreshed daily via a job run in the background. Users can trigger re-calculation of the indicators for a specific object in the Evaluation view for the object.

Indicator types are grouped in evaluation types. Evaluation types structure the indicator types for the user in the the Evaluation view available for an object. All indicator types for the evaluation of a specific aspect of the business shall be grouped under an evaluation type with a title informing the user about the evaluated topic. For example, the pre-defined evaluation group Business Score groups all indicator types to evaluate the importance of the application for the business, like Business Relevance and Number of Users.

Indicators can be object-based or global:

You can define additional evaluation types and indicator types required for the business cases of your company. The definition of new indicator types requires configuration steps for evaluation type specification, indicator type definition and, for object based indicator types, assignment of the indicator type to one or multiple object classes.
