How will IT failure impact our business?

Use the method that is most convenient for you:
- In the left navigation panel, enter How will IT failure impact our business? in the Search Navigation field.
- In the left navigation panel, click Home. In the content area, go to the Business Questions page and click the tile for How will IT failure impact our business?
- In the left navigation panel, expand the sections Business Questions and Risk and click How will IT failure impact our business?
A filter setting is mandatory and must be defined to see data for the business question How will IT failure impact our business?. If the visualization is empty, click the button and define an asset such as a location or server to understand its potential impact on the business. For example, select a location in the Location field to understand the impact of failure at this location. Click Update.
The business question How will IT failure impact our business? provides a high-level end-to-end view of your IT technology landscape. The visualization highlights your business' reliance on locations and servers and highlights the susceptibility of the applications that run on servers and the business capabilities they support. Review the dependencies that critical business capabilities have on the IT in order to understand and mitigate risk before an IT outage occurs.
This business question visualizes data in a flow report. The asset selected in the filter field determines which objects are displayed in the visualization. In general, the flow report will place business capabilities in the first position on the right, the applications that support the business capability in the center, and the servers that the applications run on and the locations hosting the servers on the left.
What is the severity of an outage for the business in the case of a local shut-down? Click the Filter button and select a location in the Location field. Review which servers are impacted in case of local shut-downs and which business capabilities would be impacted by IT failure at those locations. Select Mission Critical in the Business Relevance field to understand the impact of failure on the most important business capabilities.
Which parts of the business will be impacted by a server outage? Click the Filter button and select a server in the Physical Server field. Review the applications and business capabilities they support in order to understand the impact of the server outage on the business.
Which parts of the business will be impacted if an application fails? Click the button. Select an application in the Application field to understand which business capabilities would be impacted if an application fails. In the Color Rules field, select Object State to understand which applications are currently active and which are planned, or select Recommendation to color the applications based on the recommendation to invest, tolerate, or migrate the application. Review the legend to understand the color rules.
What is the underlying IT that supports a business capability? Click the Filter button and select a business capability in the Business Capability field to understand which applications, servers, and locations are critical to the support of the business capability.
To understand which components are running on the server in the context of an application, double-click an application to open its content area. Go to the Technology Portfolio page and scroll to the Components Used by Application view.
